History of the Paulina Amateur Rodeo
| The first Paulina Amateur Rodeo was held July 4, 1950 at its current location in Paulina, Oregon.
It was such a big success that it was decided that it should continue on an annual
basis! Since then, the Paulina Amateur Rodeo has became very popular and has attracted a wide audience from around the country.
Back in the spring of 1950, Dick and Don Bryant donated some land to the Paulina Rodeo Club, an arena was soon built, livestock was gathered and the first Paulina Rodeo was off and running!
Events included Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc, Bull Riding and Team Roping.

From 1950 until 1961, the Paulina Rodeo was a one day rodeo and held on the 4th of July. Records reflect the 1962 Paulina Rodeo being extended to two days and held Labor Day weekend. Rodeo Club members do not know why the rodeo was changed to two days when one day “darned near killed
them”. |
Fern Smith was the first Paulina Rodeo Queen in 1950. The first Paulina Rodeo Old-Timer was Lyle Miller in 1974. Ned Severance donated his skills as a rodeo announcer for many years.

Paulina is located in Central Oregon's Crook Countyabout 56 miles
southeast of Prineville.
Paulina was founded in 1870, the Post Office was established in 1880 by John T. Faulkner who served
for 25 years. Fred Moisier built a clubhouse & saloon in 1906. Lee Miller built the first store in 1905, it burned in 1929. Elmer Clark built the first hotel in 1906. May Miller was Postmaster from 1915 for 28 years, she married Lyle Miller and ran the store from 1918 until they sold it in 1949. Paulina at one time had two active saw mills,

The Paulina store that is standing now was built in 1917. It now houses the Post Office as well as the community bar. Inside the store are many unique items like the first Elk shoot after they transplanted them in 1959, it still has the Government seal. The original water pump sits up on the shelf in the store, it was the community well and everyone would come and haul water from it.
